From purely the end users perspective and user requirements, both these approaches - Lists and Circles - are constraining approaches and not the best way to group contacts and filter the sharing and following options.

There must be different approach than the current bucketing approach. I have written about the bucket vs tag approach for managing friends list and feed filtering here http://rohanrao.com/facebook-lists-and-google-circles-the-bucket-approach-and-how-it-fails/

Would love to have your thoughts.
Cheers ~

Excellent article on hiding posts from certain people on facebook! If you happen to find a way to hide a specific individuals posts made on your wall from all of your other friends that would make an awesome follow up!

Sometimes posts made on your own wall by family members are either embarrassing or annoying and you'd rather not have your 'friends' see that stuff... and you'd also like to avoid getting asked by family why you don't allow them to post if you shut off only their ability :)

"The perpetuation of the use of opening a new window will continue the slower adoption of tabs." I agree! Browser-makers can do more to encourage the use of tabs.
